Pleased to Meet You
During the Summer of 2023, artist Marie Bryan had the pleasure of meeting and painting residents – and a volunteer – at Cork Simon Community. Through her acrylic painted portraits on canvas, she would like to introduce them to you.
Marie Bryan’s work seeks to express her enthusiasm for the human drama in general, through her art practice. She actively works to promote equality, with a focus on freedom. Marie is studying Fine Art at MTU Crawford, Cork, where she concentrates on researching the phenomenon of intuition. Marie’s deep love of colour radiates in her bright, fun painted portraits. She sees the good in life, and she hopes to share this with others.

"Homelessness is not a marginal and exceptional problem. It is a central and significant issue. Homelessness is a contingency which could affect any one of us."
Here, Marie is not painting people experiencing homelessness; she is painting people.
The 'Pleased to Meet You' portrait collection will be exhibited at many of Cork city's libraries, for a month each, to the end of February 2025.
The collection is currently exhibiting at Holyhill Library until 01 March 2025. It has already been exhibited at Central Library, Grand Parade, Cork, as well as branch libraries at Tory Top Road, Mayfield (the Frank O’Connor Library), Douglas, Blarney and Bishopstown.
